When I first stumbled onto Web3, I felt like Alice tumbling down a particularly cryptographic rabbit hole. Everything I read about this topic appeared to be written using a bizarre combination of convoluted technical jargon and ancient hieroglyphics, I bet Alan Turing couldn’t decipher most of the early Web3 articles!
This website is sharing my journey from confused observer to passionate explorer to hopefully amateur competence in this fascinating new digital frontier.
Like many, I initially dismissed blockchain as just another tech buzzword that would get the geeks excited but have little impact on me personally. Every time someone mentioned “crypto” or “Web3,” I’d mentally switch off and file it away in my “crypto-bro” folder to be ignored:-)
When the mysterious Satoshi first mined a ‘bitcoin’ in 2009 only a handful of computer scientists and cryptography enthusiasts paid any attention. But when Ethereum co-founder Gavin Wood coined the term “Web3” in 2014. I slowly began to understand this was not just another geeky buzzword, this was a fundamental shift, a reimagining of how we could interact with the internet. My interest was piqued and my journey began.
This move from obscure tech niche to mainstream happened in three distinct waves:
- First Wave – Cryptocurrency: Bitcoin’s exponential rise captured the public imagination and introduced millions to the concept of blockchain technology.
- Second Wave – Smart Contracts: Ethereum expanded the potential of blockchain technology beyond just digital currency. The beginning of automated agreements and decentralized applications.
- Third Wave – NFTs and DeFi: Practical Web3 applications in art, gaming, and finance that reached beyond the tech crowd.
The evolution of Web3 has been truly remarkable. It’s not just about technology, its democratizing the internet by shifting power from centralized authorities back to individuals and communities. This story of Web3 and blockchain is still unfolding, but this movement is already reshaping our digital future.
Right now, I’m particularly excited about:
- Exploring decentralized finance applications and gaining a good understanding the intersection of AI and blockchain.
- Learning about crypto wallet safety.
- Making complex concepts accessible to newcomers.
- Breaking down Web3 concepts into understandable chunks.
